GLOBAL SALMON FARMING FORECAST FOR THE SECOND HALF OF 2022 AND 2023

Pico Agriviet

Data provided by the biggest salmon farming company in Chile shows the revised forecast of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) production worldwide for the second semester of 2022 (Q3 and Q4) and the new projections for 2023.

Globally, Atlantic salmon production for 2022 will decrease 1% when compared to 2021. On previous forecasts for this year, the expectation was to see a global increase of 2% on the total volume globally produced. However, in Q1 and Q2 2022, total production was slightly down compared to initial projections.

The main farming countries, like Norway or Chile, will have no impact on those numbers (0% variation for 2022). For 2023, the forecast is much more positive, with a global increase in Atlantic salmon production of 4%, mainly due to production increases in Norway and the UK (+5% and +7% respectively). Chile, the second largest production country, is expected to remain stable for 2023 (no increase expected).
