Agrarians of Kazakhstan\u2019s Turkestan Region Belatedly Started Sowing Watermelons and Melons<\/a>\u00a0(Mar 13)<\/p>\n

In the Zhetysu district of the Turkestan region, farmers began sowing gourds. Farmers traditionally start sowing watermelons and melons at the end of February. In 2023 sowing work began 10-15 days late due to weather conditions, Farmers in the rural districts of Zh. Eraliyeva, Atameken, Kyzylkum, Yntymak, Zhana aul, Zhyly su, and Kazybek bi, who took advantage of the warming, planted gourds on 93 hectares. Of these, 75 hectares were melons, and 18 hectares by watermelons.<\/p>\n

Brazilian melon exports declined in February. Secex reported volume shipped in this period was 21K tons, a decrease of 33% compared to January and a drop of 21% compared to February 2022. The shipment reduction is due to the early end of harvest for February for most producers and exporters in Rio Grande do Norte instead of March, which reduced production.<\/p>\n

In Costa Rica, unexpected rains of up to 20mm during the start of W11 generated uncertainty for melon producers in the larger producing areas in the country. Rainy weather conditions increase the susceptibility of melon plants to attack by pathogens, causing a significant part of the fruit not to reach international markets due to possible quality problems.<\/p>\n

Watermelons Will Not Be Sown in the Kherson Region This Year\u00a0<\/a>(Mar 17)<\/p>\n

In 2023, the sowing campaign will not start in the Kherson region due to mined fields, but the Odessa region, part of the Kirovohrad region, will sow onions, watermelons, and melons.<\/p>\n
