Melon Exports Retreat in February (Mar 13)
Brazilian melon exports declined in February. Secex reported volume shipped in this period was 21K tons, a decrease of 33% compared to January and a drop of 21% compared to February 2022. The shipment reduction is due to the early end of harvest for February for most producers and exporters in Rio Grande do Norte instead of March, which reduced production.
Costa Rica
In Costa Rica, unexpected rains of up to 20mm during the start of W11 generated uncertainty for melon producers in the larger producing areas in the country. Rainy weather conditions increase the susceptibility of melon plants to attack by pathogens, causing a significant part of the fruit not to reach international markets due to possible quality problems.
