Fresh lime importers in Rotterdam describe the market as “positive and stable”. Prices for limes from Mexico and Brazil, the two most important origins of fresh limes during this time period, are barely deviating and remain on a positive level which allows rotation and sales. Brazilian limes are selling at an average price of USD 9.23/4kg box in W32 while Mexican limes reached an average price of USD 10.26/4kg box. Prices are expected to remain at this level for 2-3 weeks at least.
Fresh lime (Persian variety) shipments from Mexico to the EU in W32 remain normative; higher than previous weeks, but not so much to create an oversupply of the product on the market. On the other hand, the supply of Brazilian limes (Tahiti variety) is lower than expected in W32 because an undetermined number of packhouses closed due to sanitary reasons. Specifically, Xanthomonas (plant bacteria) were identified in some inspected samples.
