LEMON PRICE IN SPAIN UP BY 8.5% MOM DUE TO LOWER PRODUCTION

The wholesale price of the Fino lemon in Spain has increased 8.5% in the first week of October to USD 1.02/kg, vs the same week the previous month. Lesser production of Spanish lemon in the MY 2022/23 is driving the prices up.

In Spain, the Fino lemon harvest season begun in September. Throughout September, there was an increase in the prices, which is still present in W1 of Oct.. The current season’s production of Spanish lemons is expected to fall by 10% YoY to 1.09 million mt. Unfavorable weather during March and April impacted flowering and fruit setting. Additionally, summer heat waves also caused a delay in fruit growth and smaller lemons size. As a result, there is less Spanish lemon available.

Despite a 10% decline, Spain will continue to lead the EU lemon market as Spain is the EU’s largest lemon producer and accounts for nearly 65% of the EU’s production.
