The ban takes effect from July 28, applies to all types of rice, companies that want to export or re-export rice must apply for a permit from the Ministry of Economy.
July 29, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) imposed a four-month ban on rice exports and re-exports. The restraining order may automatically renew if there is no decision to revoke it.

The UAE Ministry of Economy said the ban took effect from July 28, applying to all types of rice. Companies wishing to export or re-export rice must obtain a permit from the Ministry of Economy.

The UAE’s move comes after India decided to stop exporting some types of white rice, to cool down the price of rice inside the country, which has been increasing rapidly due to the impact of a crop failure. It is known that the UAE has to import nearly 90% of the food it needs.

Earlier on the same day, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr also considered the possibility of increasing the country’s rice reserves, seeking a diversified supply, due to concerns about the adverse effects of climate change, making the supply rice in the world is limited.
